Riverside - One Of Poland s Best - As one of Poland s best progressive rock exports Riverside has come up with another winner for their sophomore release Second Life Syndrome. The band continues in the same direction as their first one with their Opeth, meets Pink Floyd, meets Porcupine Tree sound. The 9 tracks here are all very well done and the album all flows together nicely. Highlights include Volte-Face, the title track Second Life Syndrome, and Dance With The Shadow. This is another great slice of melodic progressive rock with a hint of metal from one of Poland s best bands.
Not quite what I expected.... - ....which isn t necessarily a bad thing. I heard a couple of tracks from Riverside on internet radio, which lead me to buy this disc. About 3/4 of the songs I really like, but a bit of the music is too hard with a lot of dark imagery for my tastes. No question about the band s talent, just not quite my cup of tea. I will continue to listen and see if it becomes an aquired taste for me.
I m Hooked on Riverside! - From the very opening moments of Second Life Syndrome, Riverside had their musical hooks into me. What an interesting sound these four lads from Warsaw, Poland have created! I find it hard to believe these guys have only been around since 2001, but they have developed a progressive metal-flavored rock which really sounds fresh and melodic to me. Piotr Grudzinski s soaring guitar really pierces through the gloomy atmospheres tantalizingly painted by Michal Lapaz s textured keyboards. I find the vocals to be pleasing and quite versatile in the different moods portrayed by the band s bass player, Mariusz Duda. The drums are provided by Piotr Kozieradzi which fill the bill but do not flourish. All in all I am very impressed by the songs on this album and I highly recommend this to anyone familiar with Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree or just like progressive rock enough to take a leap of faith as I did based on these reviewers and the short samples. It s a real shame that radio is only dedicated to hip-hop and studio created nobodys that will be gone next year. This band would truly become huge with the right amount of exposure. So tell your kids to dump Britany and buy Riverside. - Ciao
Hrrmmmm - Overall, I do enjoy this album. It s not quite as progressive as I hoped and expected. However the drifting, often gentle, guitar solos are pleasant and mostly appropriate.Unfortunately the drums lack presence and power - vital components of a band s back-bone instrument when experimenting and bending time signatures.Definately worth the listen. I d never heard a band from Poland before this album, which may be why I d never heard music quite like this.
